A house fire 2 days after Irene took my cookbooks and hand written recipes away. What did miraculously survive the fire was my mom and dad's cookbook, handwritten, battered and full of the staple meals and preserves that I so loved growing up. Sleeved in the side was a recipe I had not noticed in years. It was given to me one gray day on Block Island while we were building oak lobster pots for the coming fishing season. A tiny, energetic lady with a Scotch accent, Vi Fowler, handwrote and passed on to me "Lemon Chess Tarts" Look for this gem on our menu when you visit.
